'Fortitude' is a defiant personification of feminine strength. She stands quietly yet proudly in the face of adversity, instilled with an inner courage. Originally modelled in cardboard, this piece was created during lockdown when other sculpting materials were hard to source.  Cardboard became a very quick and immediate material to work with, which offers the subject a life of its own. The corrugated card lends her textures which are both organic and industrial, rustic and urban. After lock down eased and access to materials and studio space became available, the piece was set in a durable polyseter resin, and bought to life with gilding wax.
